Cape Town City FC’s veteran coach Muhsin Ertugral has spoken exclusively to Pan-Africa Football, saying he was dedicating his Betway Premiership latest award to his entire squad.
Asked for his reaction to winning the Betway Coach of the Month award for January 2025, the veteran mentor said: “It belongs to all the team behind the team and the boys.”
Ertugral bagged the award alongside Sekhukhune striker Andy Boyeli and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lucas Ribeiro on Thursday. South Africa elite football governing body, PSL released the list of the standout performers for January 2025 following an assessment done by a panel of selected sports journalists.
The former Orlando Pirates mentor bagged the Coach of the Month gong after turning around Cape Town City’s fortunes in a caretaker role following the sacking of Erick Tinkler. The 60-year-old’s substantive position at Cape Town City is technical director.
The Turkish mentor registered three wins in four games last month, including back-to-back slaying of Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates, to win the accolade ahead of Sekhukhune United FC coach Lehlohonolo Seema and his Polokwane City counterpart Phuti Mohafe.
On the other hand, Congolese forward Boyeli earned Player of the Month Award in recognition of his four goals in two games, including a hat-trick against SuperSport United FC.
Midfielder Ribeiro secured the goal of the month for his acrobatic volley from the edge of the box to break the resistance of Magesi FC and win 2-1 in Polokwane.
Ribeiro faced competition from Chiefs’ Mfundo Vilakazi and Devin Titus of Stellenbosch FC.
