Seven-time Uganda Premier League champions Express FC have been sanctioned by the FUFA Disciplinary Panel following incidents of hooliganism during their 2-2 draw with Vipers SC on April 11 at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.
The panel found the club guilty of breaching Article 14 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code after disgruntled Express fans reacted violently at full-time. The crowd’s anger was sparked by a late equalizer from Vipers’ Gusto Mulongo, which left many Express supporters frustrated with the match officials' decisions.
According to FUFA's ruling, "Express FC supporters threw bottles at match officials, constituting acts of hooliganism in violation of Article 14(11) of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code. This conduct was deemed a serious breach of the Code."
As a result, Express FC has been fined UGX 1,000,000, payable within 14 days of the ruling. Furthermore, the club has been handed a suspended two-point and two-goal deduction, which will be activated if similar misconduct occurs again.
FUFA also issued a stern warning to Express concerning their future conduct, emphasizing the need to uphold discipline and sportsmanship. Express is scheduled to return to action on Thursday, April 24, with a home clash against UPDF FC.
