Brighton & Hove Albion are through to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup after taking down fellow Premier League side Newcastle on Sunday by a 2-1 score following extra time.
Gambia national team star Yankuba Minteh was a key figure in the dramatic victory for Brighton, leveling the match just before halftime after an Alexander Isak penalty kick put hosts Newcastle ahead. The visitors broke down the right wing following a throw-in and João Pedro's brilliant through pass sent Minteh in for an excellent finish.
The suspense only increased in the second half with each team having a player sent off in the final stretch of normal time before Newcastle defender Fabian Schär had a goal disallowed by VAR in stoppage time. However, Brighton found inspiration in extra time by taking control of the match before Danny Welbeck put The Seagulls ahead for good with his match winner in the 114th minute.
After a crushing 0-7 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the beginning of February in the Premier League, Brighton have now won five games in a row between league and FA Cup action. Minteh continues to display his massive potential with three goals and an assist during this stretch.
The 20-year-old, who now has six goals and four assists in twenty-five matches this season, will next lead his team on Saturday when Brighton host Fulham in the Premier League.
