Newly elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has confirmed world governing body FIFA’s commitment to help rebuild the sport in the country.
Mohammed, who was elected the FKF President after winning the elections held on December 7 in Nairobi, is currently in Marrakech, Morocco attending the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards.
At the sidelines of the CAF event, Mohammed met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, whom he said promised to support his course to rebuild the game. “Yesterday (Monday) in Marrakech, I had the privilege of meeting FIFA President Gianni Infantino. We discussed governance, infrastructure, and the development of Kenyan football, including women’s football,” read a statement from Mohammed seen by Pan-Africa Football.
“President Infantino assured me of FIFA’s support as we work to rebuild the sport. FIFA and FKF are also planning to establish a technical centre in Kenya, which will be key for football growth. These discussions lay the groundwork for meaningful progress in Kenyan football at all levels.”
During the Awards, Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman, Zambia striker Barbra Banda and South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams were the big winners as Africa’s best performers for the year were honoured.
The glittering ceremony was attended by football royalty from the continent and beyond in a celebration of the incredible growth and development of the game in Africa, and the astonishing strides that have been made in men’s and women’s football in recent years.
Lookman was named CAF Men’s Player of the Year after a sensational 12 months with Italian side Atalanta and the Nigeria’s Super Eagles follows in the footsteps of compatriot Victor Osimhen, who claimed the award in 2023.
