Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League have come out to reveal why returning striker Benson Omala was not involved during their Premier League derby against AFC Leopards on Sunday.

In the first round fixture of the Mashemeji derby at Nyayo Stadium, both teams settled for a 0-0 draw. Omala, who rejoined the Kenyan champions at the close of the mid-season transfer window, was, however, missing in action.

However, K’Ogalo have clarified the reason in a statement obtained by Pain-Africa Football.

Below is the full statement;

Gor Mahia's prominent striker and the 2023/24 FKF Premier League Golden Boot winner, is currently unable to play for the club due to unresolved transfer documentation. After a stint with Lebanese Premier League side Al Safa SC, Omala returned to Kenya following challenges including injury and security concerns in Lebanon.

Despite rejoining us during the mid-season transfer window, he has yet to receive his International Transfer Certificate (ITC), which is essential for his eligibility to participate in official matches.

The delay in obtaining the ITC stems from Al Safa SC's position that Omala remains their player and is not available for transfer. Gor Mahia's CEO, Raymond Oruo, has indicated that the matter has been escalated to FIFA's Player Status Committee for resolution.

This situation has led to Omala's absence from key fixtures, including the recent Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards.

While he continues to train with Gor Mahia, his participation in competitive matches remains on hold until the transfer issues are resolved and his ITC is secured.
