Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League record champions Gor Mahia FC have lost defender Kennedy Onyango to injury after their hard-fought 1-0 win against KCB at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Monday.
In the rescheduled fixture after it was rained off on Sunday following heavy rains that had pounded Machakos County and its environs, midfielder Austin Odhiambo scored the only goal of the game from a well-curled free kick to give the record champions maximum points.
However, despite carrying the points, K’Ogalo suffered a blow in their quest to retain the title for a third consecutive season, after Onyango, who was withdrawn against the Bankers, suffered an injury that will likely rule him out until the end of the season.
A statement from Gor Mahia obtained by Pan-Africa Football confirmed: “Our defender Kennedy Onyango sustained complete fracture of Tibia and Fibula bones as he featured in the game against KCB. This has been confirmed by team doctor Fred Nyakwaka. As a club, we wish Kennedy (Onyango) a quick recovery.”
The win enabled Gor Mahia to cut Kenya Police FC lead at the summit to three points and helped them to keep the third position, behind second-placed Tusker.
