Reigning FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia suffered a huge setback in their title defence with a 1-0 defeat to struggling FC Talanta in a rescheduled fixture at Dandora Stadium on Thursday.

K’Ogalo came into the match off the back of a 1–1 draw with Sofapaka, while Talanta were reeling from a 4–2 loss to Shabana FC. Gor Mahia looked the better side in the early stages and should have taken the lead just four minutes in, but Benson Omalla missed a golden opportunity after excellent build-up play from Austin Odhiambo.

The game remained balanced heading into the 20th minute, with K’Ogalo continuing to look the stronger side. However, they struggled to unlock Talanta’s defence. In the 30th minute, Omalla was presented with another glorious chance to make the breakthrough, but he squandered the opportunity with a tame effort that drifted inches wide.

Gor Mahia were made to pay for their missed chances as Talanta took a shock lead in the 38th minute, with Emmanuel Osoro slotting the ball past goalkeeper Gad Mathews. K’Ogalo were visibly rattled, and Talanta held on to their one-goal advantage heading into the half-time break.

In the second half, Gor Mahia playing without head coach Sinisa Mihic, who was serving a suspension after receiving a straight red card in the 1–0 win over KCB continued to push for an equaliser, but Talanta held firm.

A win would have seen K’Ogalo leapfrog Kenya Police FC into second place in the 18-team league table. However, the defeat leaves them third with 47 points from 27 matches, having recorded 13 wins, eight draws, and six losses.

Tusker remain at the top of the table with 51 points (W14 D9 L4), while Kenya Police stay second with 49 points (W13 D10 L4).

Gor Mahia will return to FKF Premier League action on Sunday when they face Mara Sugar.
