Kakamega Homeboyz ended Kenya Police’s five game winning run after a 1-1 FKF Premier League draw on Saturday.
After a 0-0 outcome in the first half, the law enforcers thought they had won their sixth straight fixture under new coach Etienne Ndayiragije when Eric Zakayo scored in the 85th minute.
But their celebrations were cut short when striker side in added minutes of stoppages. Shumah took advantage of a blunder by goalkeeper Patrick Matasi to head in the equalizer.
The draw left Police third on the 18-team table with 24 points from 14 matches while Homeboys kept their 14th place with 16 points from 14 outings.
Meanwhile, Tusker finished the year on a high, coming from a goal down to beat Posta Rangers 3-1 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. The Mailmen had gone ahead in the 32nd minute through Ivan Ochieng, but a quick response from Ryan Ogam levelled matters before Tom Teka headed home the second.
Skipper Charles Momanyi finished off the win with a goal four minutes to time, as the Brewers finished the year with 27 points. Keen to pick another three points, Tusker had a strong start to the game with Dennis Wanjala striking inches over the bar from the edge of the box while Shaphan Siwa forced the keeper to a fantastic double save with efforts from inside the box.
George Kaddu also had a well-timed header from a Wanjala cross go just inches wide.
Against the run of play, the Mailmen broke the deadlock. Ivan headed unmarked inside the box from a recycled ball off a corner.
However, straight from the restart, the boys levelled. Ogam scored his 13th goal of the season with a powerful strike from inside the box off a brilliant assist from the impressive Thomas Omole.
Two minutes later it was 2-1 when Teka headed home at the back post, Wanjala’s precise corner finding him in good space. In the second half, Posta came back stronger and had a better start, but Tusker defended well.
Skipper Momanyi nodded home his third goal of the season with a header at the backpost, finishing off a cross from substitute Yussuf Mainge who had come in for his Tusker FC debut.
Elsewhere, KCB cemented their top spot after a thrilling 4-3 victory against promoted side Mara Sugar while Mathare United edged out Shabana 1-0.
