KCB’s disastrous campaign in the second round of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League continued following a 2-1 defeat against struggling Posta Rangers at SportPesa Arena in Murang’a on Saturday.
The Bankers, who topped the 18-team league table for most parts of the first round, have now slipped to fourth position, after suffering their fifth defeat of the campaign.
Despite taking a 10th minute lead courtesy of James Kinyanjui, KCB failed to build on the result and they came crumbling in the added minutes of the first half when the Mailmen drew level from the penalty spot before they won the fixture in the 71st minute.
The Bankers are now sitting fourth with 36 points from 23 matches while the win enabled Posta Rangers to move to 13th with 25 points from 23 matches. In another fixture, Nairobi City Stars gunned down Ulinzi Stars 1-0 but the win did little as they remained rooted at the bottom of the table with 22 points from 23 matches.
The win marked the arrival of new coach Salim Babu and it was Kelvin Etemesi, who scored the all-important goal with only three minutes played. Simba wa Nairobi have now won five matches, drawn seven and suffered 11 defeats.
The defeat left Ulinzi Stars 10th with 28 points garnered from six wins, 10 draws and seven defeats. Elsewhere, Sofapaka and promoted side Mara Sugar settled for a 1-1 draw at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
