Title-chasing Kenya Police and Tusker will hope to stay clear of champions Gor Mahia as the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) enters matchday 26 with eight matches lined up across the country on Saturday and Sunday.

Police, who are leading the 18-team league table with 48 points, will take on Nairobi City Stars at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday, the same day second-placed Tusker, who have garnered 47 points, will be up against Mara Sugar away in Awendo.

Third-placed Gor Mahia, who are breathing behind the necks of Police and Tusker, will face KCB in another crucial fixture. The margin of the leading teams at the top is too small, with a small error allowing the opponent to take a huge stride towards winning the title.

A win for Posta will see them reach points, while the Brewers will close the gap to one point as they will reach 50. However, if Police and Tusker falter, and record champions Gor Mahia register win, K’Ogalo will reduce the lead at the top to two points, and one point to second-placed Tusker.

The law enforcers will go into the fixture seeking a third straight win, having beaten Murang’a Seal 3-1 and Posta Rangers 1-0 in their last outings. Infact, their last defeat in the league came on February 20, a 1-0 outcome against Mathare United.

Police will go into the fixture against the relegation-threatened City Stars as favourites, having won five times of their last seven league matches. Last season, the law enforcers sealed a dream double over Simba wa Nairobi, winning the first round meeting 2-1 before rounding it off with a 3-1 win.

In the previous campaign, it was another six point haul for Police, who won the first round meeting 4-2 and sealed the double with a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture. In the 2023 season, City Stars managed to snatch a rare point from Police after a 0-0 draw in the first round meeting, but Police recovered to win the second round contest 2-1.

The only time City Stars secured a win over Police was in 2021, a 2-0 outcome. City Stars are currently languishing at the bottom with 23 points from 25 matches and are among the candidates to face relegation this season.

For Tusker, this will be the second time they will face the promoted side, the first meeting ending 2-1 in their favour. While Tusker are second on the log, Mara, who started their debut season brightly, have faded to stay in 11th position with 28 points from 25 outings.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia will hope to make amends from their 0-0 draw against rivals AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji derby and get a win that will help them put pressure on Police and Tusker.

Amazingly, Gor Mahia are yet to beat the Bankers in the last four matches. The last time K’Ogalo beat the Bankers was in the 2021/22 season, when they managed to beat them home and away – 2-1 and 1-0. Last season, the fixture did not produce a winner, the first round clash ending in a 0-0 draw, the same as the second round contest.
