Kenya Police FC reclaimed their spot in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League table following a hard-fought 2-0 win against Bidco United on Saturday.

The law enforcers went into the fixture knowing a win would see them move above Tusker, but only for the 24 hours, should the Brewers manage to beat record champions Gor Mahia in another top fixture on Sunday.

However, the game was not easy for Police as they toiled to break down the resilient Bidco defence. Despite being the better side in the opening minutes, the first half ended in a 0-0 draw.

In the second period, Police continued to raid Bidco but they had to wait until the 70th minute when new signing Mohammed Bajaber found the back of the net. Bajaber, who signed for the club two days ago from Nairobi City Stars, composed himself well before slotting to an empty net.

Three minutes later, Police under Burundian coach Etienne Ndayiragije, doubled their scoreline when David Simiyu drilled home from close range. The win, the 11th of the campaign for the law enforcers, increased their chances of winning their first-ever league title at the end of the season.

Police are now sitting top of the 18-team league table with 41 points garnered from 11 wins, eight draws and two defeats. However, their stay at the summit could be short lived if Tusker secure a win against Gor Mahia.

On the other hand, the defeat saw Bidco drop to the relegation zone, as they are placed 17th with 18 points from 21 matches. Away in Awendo, AFC Leopards scored in either half to sink promoted side Mara Sugar 2-1. Peter Mabok scored the opener for Ingwe in the 19th minute for a 1-0 cushion at the half-time break.

However, Ingwe were pegged back in the 59th minute when Noah Jagongo scored from a tap in but AFC Leopards won the game in the 81st minute when Kyce Odhiambo latched onto a through ball from the left wing, to hit a wonderful effort into the roof of the net.

The win enabled AFC Leopards to move fourth with 33 points accumulated from nine wins, six draws and five defeats while Mara dropped to 11th with 25 points from 21 matches.

Meanwhile, KCB’s poor run continued after they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Sofapaka.

Jack Onganya opened the scoring for Batoto ba Mungu in the 36th minute before Edward Omondi sealed the win in the 67th minute. KCB have now dropped to fifth with 32 points from 20 matches while Sofapaka jumped to eighth with 28 points from 21 matches.

In other matches, FC Talanta shocked Bandari 3-2 at Mbaraki Sports Club while Ulinzi Stars secured a 2-1 away win against Murang’a Seal.
