The race for the top spot in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League changed hands yet again ahead of the FIFA international break after Kenya Police mauled Murang’a Seal 3-1 to dislodge Tusker FC from the summit on Saturday.

Before Police took to the pitch to play Murang’a, Tusker had temporarily assumed leadership following their hard-fought 2-1 win against Posta Rangers at Dandora Stadium on Friday.

Sensing danger, the law enforcers threw everything at Murang’a Seal to take a deserved lead in the 16th minute courtesy of new Harambee Stars call up Mohammed Bajaber, who joined them from Nairobi City Stars in the just concluded transfer window.

Police under Burundian coach Etienne Ndayiragije, doubled their lead in the 38th minute when David Irishura beat Muranga’s offside trap to score. However, Victor Haki reduced the deficit for the visiting side in the 44th minute for a 2-1 result at the half-time break.

In the second period, the game swung from both ends with no one ready to take advantage and score but it was Police, who doubled their advantage in the 69th minute. Bajaber, who was advancing through on goal, was brought down inside the box and the referee did not hesitate to point to the penalty spot.

The youngster stepped up to score his second of the day and third for Police, sending Murang’a keeper the wrong way. The win enabled Police to move top with 45 points, one more than second-placed Tusker. While Police have managed 12 wins, nine draws and suffered three defeats, the Brewers have won 12 matches, drawn eight and lost four.

However, Police and Tusker should be worried at the speed reigning champions Gor Mahia are climbing up the log following their 2-0 win against Bandari FC at Dandora Stadium on Saturday.

Alpha Onyango put the record league winners ahead in the 15th minute for a 1-0 half-time lead at the breather and in the second half, they were forced to wait until the 89th minute when Chris Ochieng put the game beyond the Dockers.

With a game in hand, Gor Mahia are now three points away from catching up with Police at the summit. K'Ogalo have accumulated 42 points, from 12 wins, eight draws and suffered five defeats.
