Joint leaders Kenya Police FC and Tusker FC will be in action as the battle for supremacy in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League continues to gather pace with 10 matches lined up across the country from Saturday to Sunday.
On Saturday, the Gor Mahia versus Posta Rangers clash will be the highlight of the three matches lined up. Having drawn 0-0 against Kakamega Homeboyz, the record league champions will be going flat out to win against the Mailmen and keep the pace with table leaders Police and Tusker.
Last season, Gor Mahia sealed a memorable double against the Mailmen in a two-legged fixture that produced seven goals. K’Ogalo won the first round meeting 4-0 before humiliating the Mailmen 3-0 in the reverse fixture.
In the previous campaign, Gor Mahia won the first meeting 2-0 but drew 2-2 in the second round fixture while in 2022, it was Gor Mahia, who won the first meeting 3-1. In the last seven matches in all competition, Posta have managed to beat Gor Mahia only once, a 1-0 win in the domestic Cup.
While Gor Mahia will go into the fixture sitting third on the 18-team league table with 28 points from 17 matches, Posta Rangers are sitting 17th, one of the automatic relegation spots, with 17 points from 18 matches.
On Sunday, both Police and Tusker will be in action. The law enforcers will take on Sofapaka while the Brewers will come up against KCB. Last season, Tusker won the first meeting 2-0 but the Bankers recovered to win the reverse fixture 3-2.
In the previous campaign, the Brewers emerged 1-0 winners in the first meeting before they sealed a double with an emphatic 5-0 win in the second meeting. For Police, they will be keen to protect their nine game unbeaten run since the arrival of coach Etienne Ndayiragije.
The Burundian coach joined Police, who were languishing at the bottom of the table, with only one win to show for it from eight matches but arrival was the turning point as Police went ahead to win their first five matches under his watch.
He started off with a resounding 3-1 win against Nairobi City Stars, 1-0 win against promoted Mara Sugar, 3-0 win against Bidco United, 1-0 win against Gor Mahia and 1-0 win against FC Talanta.
After the Talanta game, they drew 1-1 against Kakamega Homeboyz, beat Posta Rangers 3-2, beat Murang’a Seal 1-0, and defeated Bandari 3-0 before edging out Mara Sugar 1-0 in their last assignment.
