Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League outfit Mathare United have secured the services of Brian Ochieng on a free transfer after he had left KCB.
In a statement seen by Pan-Africa Football, the ‘Slum Boys’ confirmed that the box-to-box midfielder had committed to the struggling club on a two-year deal.
“Mathare United is delighted to announce the mid-season signing of Brian Ochieng on a free transfer. Popularly referred to as Rio by his peers, Ochieng joins after ending his tenure at KCB FC and commits to the club for the next two years,” read part of the statement.
“Comfortable playing either as a holding or box-to-box midfielder, Ochieng is reuniting with head coach John Kamau for a third time. The pair first worked together at FC Talanta eight years ago in the National Super League.
“After moving to KCB a year later, Kamau, highly impressed with Ochieng’s growth, made sure the former MYSA graduate joined him with the Bankers. At KCB, Ochieng also shared a dressing room with Eric Mulu and Mohammed Kilume.
“A native of Nairobi's Kayole estate, Ochieng, becomes our fifth acquisition this February.”
He joins a Mathare United side, who are currently sitting 14th on the 18-team league table, two places above the relegation zone, with 21 points from 19 matches.
