Shabana FC produced a stunning comeback to defeat Tusker FC 2-1 in a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League fixture at Gusii Stadium on Saturday.
It was the Brewers, who drew the first blood in the 11th minute when defender and captain Charles Momanyi nodded home following a superb free-kick delivered by Thomas Teka.
However, Tore Bobe, who has created a lot of chances, levelled matters in the 45th minute through Dennis Okoth, who cut through the Tusker defence to score. The two sides went into the half-time break tied at 1-1 but Shabana should blame themselves for the missed chances.
Shabana started the second half strongly and continued to dominate the Brewers but they were forced to wait until the 82nd minute when Austine Odongo set up Ezekiah Omuri to score what turned out to be the winner.
The win enabled the Gusii-based Glamour Boys to move fifth on the 18-team league table with 23 points from 16 matches. They have managed six wins, five draws and five defeats.
Meanwhile, Tusker, who had a chance to move top of the table, remained second on 27 points amassed from eight wins, three draws and four defeats. In another match, Posta Rangers needed a stoppage time goal through Oliver Maloba to defeat Nairobi City Stars 2-1.
In a game of few chances, Simba wa Nairobi scored first in fourth minute when Vincent Otieno weaved past the Posta defence to slam home. Lewis Shivachi labelled matters for Posta in the 27th minute. With the game heading for a draw, Posta had the last laugh when Maloba drilled home from close range for the maximum points.
However, the win did little for the Mailmen as they remained rooted at the bottom with 14 points from 15 matches while the defeat saw City Stars drop to 15th with 16 points from 16 matches.
Elsewhere, Kakamega Homeboyz needed a second half strike courtesy of Pius Wangi in the 75th minute to condemn FC Talanta to their eighth defeat of the season.
