AFC Leopards suffered one of their worst defeats in recent years after going down 4-2 against struggling FC Talanta in a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League fixture on Saturday.

Ingwe players went into the game having boycotted their last training session demanding for unpaid salaries and allowances. The decision not to train never looked to affect the players as they scored first in the 11th minute courtesy of Boniface Munyendo.

However, Talanta drew level after four minutes when Kevin Odongo tapped home a cross from the right wing. Brian Kipruto then made it 2-1 for Talanta after sliding home a cross from Kipruto in the 19th minute.

Talanta went into the half-time break leading 2-1 and they went 3-1 up in the 51st minute courtesy of Emmanuel Osoro’s well-crafted goal. It was 4-1 in favour of Talanta in the 59th minute when Kipruto scored his second of the day.

Maxwell Otieno pulled a goal back for Ingwe in the stoppages but it was too little too late as Talanta held on to pick their fourth win of the campaign and inflict AFC Leopards their fifth defeat of the season.

The defeat saw Ingwe drop down the 18-team table to position sixth with 22 points from 15 matches. They have managed six wins, four draws and suffered five defeats. For Talanta, it was a huge win for the side, who were sitting a place below the relegation zone. They moved up to position 15th with 17 points from 17 matches.

Elsewhere, playing their first game since firing head coach George Midenyo, Mara Sugar bounced back to winning ways after demolishing Mathare United 3-0 at Awendo Green Stadium.

The fixture involving promoted sides saw Mara take the lead in the 30th minute through David Owino before Batts Awita made it 2-0 in the 44th minute. Noah Jagongo scored the third in the 80th minute to ensure Mara moved up the table to seventh with 22 points from 17 matches.

The defeat left the ‘Slum Boys’ sitting 13th with 20 points from 17 matches. Elsewhere, Ulinzi Stars needed a second goal to gun down Kariobangi Sharks in a closely fought battle.

After a 0-0 first half, the Soldiers were forced to wait until the 79th minute when Javan Omondi drilled home with his right foot. Ulinzi are now 10th with 22 points from 17 matches while Sharks dropped to 14th on 19 points from 17 matches.

Meanwhile, Kakamega Homeboyz registered their fifth win of the season following a hard-fought 1-0 win against Bidco United at Mumias Complex.

Brian Eshihanda scored the all-important goal in the sixth minute to take Homeboyz to ninth on the table with 22 points from 17 matches. The defeat saw Bidco drop two places down to stay at position 17th, which is an automatic relegation spot, with 15 points from 17 outings.
