Tusker FC squandered a great opportunity to move one point clear at the top of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League following a 1-1 comeback draw against a resilient visiting Shabana side in a fixture at Kenyatta Stadium on Wednesday.

The Brewers went into the fixture knowing a win will help them leapfrog table leaders Kenya Police at the top of the 18-team table with one point. But it was Tore Bobe, who took the lead in the 32nd minute when new signing Keith Imbali bundled home a loose ball inside Tusker’s danger zone.

Shabana, who had won the first round meeting between the two sides 2-1 at Gusii Stadium, were headed to cause an upset until the 90th minute when Eric Balecho rescued a point for the Brewers, after sneaking behind Shabana’s custodian to head home a throw in from George Kaddu.

Apart from Shabana’s goal, the game had few chances in the first half, Tusker’s Kaddu threatening with his long throws, and they almost resulted into a goal in the 16th minute when he found Chris Erambo at the far post, but the midfielder hit his header off the post.

In the second half, Tusker introduced youngster David Polepole for his debut after replacing Ryam Ogam and in the 59th minute, they missed another open chance when Erambo’s cross found Alex Onchwari unmarked at the far post, but his effort went inches wide.

The draw saw Tusker remain one point behind Kenya Police, who have garnered 41 points from 20 matches. Tusker have won 11 matches, drawn four and suffered four defeats. In another fixture, KCB and Mathare United settled for a 1-1 draw at SportPesa Arena.
