Tusker interim coach Charles Okere has revealed their desire to win the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title this season.
The Brewers are currently sitting joint top with Kenya Police in the 18-team league table with 36 points from 18 matches. They have managed 11 wins, three draws and suffered four defeats.
“This is a marathon and there is no easy game. Every game for us is like a final and we cannot be in the comfort zone. We are here to work and get the best results in every game,” said Okere as quoted by the club’s official website.
Tusker continued with their push for the title with a 1-0 win agtainst Ulinzi Stars. Asked about the game, Okere said; “Kudos to the players because it was a really tough win. We played under very difficult conditions with extreme heat on the artificial turf. But, we had a plan, and we executed it to get the three points.”
On what he said to turn the tide of the game in the second half; “In the dressing room, I just told them one word; ‘You know what to do’. We had worked through the week and had a plan and we executed it well in the second half.
“The first half was a bit scrappy and we seemed like we were getting out of our strategy but we came back stronger and scored from a setpiece, something that we had worked on.”
On getting a clean sheet from the game, Okere explained; “This is a big motivation for us especially against a very tactical side like Ulinzi. They created numerous scoring chances and we were lucky at some point.
“We have been working to improve our backline because we have been conceding a lot of goal and I am happy that we managed to pick a clean sheet.”
