Tusker FC moved two points clear at the top of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League table following a hard-fought 2-1 win against Posta Rangers at Dandora Stadium on Friday.
David Polepole put up a starring performance with a goal and an assist, as the Brewers bounced back to winning ways. Polepole, the Youth Team assistant captain, was called up to the senior team to add on to offensive options and on his very first start in the league, played a pivotal role as the team put off a five-match winless streak.
He made his start memorable, linking up with his erstwhile Youth Team partner Teddy Dok, also earning a first ever league start. He played the midfielder through on goal, the latter controlling with his chest before firing past the keeper in the 25th minute.
Five minutes later he was on the scoresheet, picking up Eric Balecho’s ball inside the box before rifling a low shot that beat the keeper to make it 2-0 after just half an hour. Posta threatened a comeback in the second half and in the 65th minute, they halved the deficit when Felix Oluoch headed into the net at the near post off a corner.
The win enabled Tusker move to 44 points on the 18-team league table, two more than second-placed Kenya Police, who could reclaim their lead on Saturday if they manage to beat Murang’a Seal at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
In another match, Sofapaka piled more miseries on struggling Nairobi City Stars following a 2-0 win at the same venue. The victory pulled Batoto ba Mungu to sixth with 33 points from 24 matches while Simba wa Nairobi remained at the bottom with 22 points from 24 outings.
