
Former Ghana international Ibrahim Tanko has been appointed as head coach of Ghana Premier League side Medeama SC.
Tanko, who left his sporting director role at fellow Premier League side Accra Lions, joins the Mauve and Yellow on a two-and-half year deal as announced by the club on Wednesday. The UEFA Licence A holder has completed the formalities to begin life in Tarkwa where expectation for success runs extremely high.
Medeama’s social media handle announced: "Medeama Sporting Club is pleased to confirm the appointment of Coach Ibrahim Tanko two-and- half year contract. The UEFA license A holder has completed formalities and replaces technical director Augustine Evans Adotey, who reverts to his original role," a club statement read on Wednesday.
"The former Ghana International is one of the most exciting coaches and brings wealth of experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character to the club."
Nicknamed the 'Bullet', Tanko joins the Mauve and Yellow after leaving Premier League side Accra Lions where he served as a coach and technical advisor.
"The former Borussia Dortmund star is one of the experienced trainers in the country having worked in Japan’s J-League and the Bundesliga. He was also an assistant coach of Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions as well as Ghana's Black Meteors and Black Galaxies."
The experienced trainer will be around to watch the club’s training on Wednesday before taking full charge of training on Thursday, January 30 at the Akoon Community Park. Tanko’s first assignment will be to face Legon Cities on Sunday February 3, 2025, at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa.
