Former SC Villa head coach Dusan Stojanovic has been named the new assistant coach of Sudanese football giants Al Merrikh SC.

Stojanovic will work under fellow Serbian Milutin "Micho" Sredojevic who has been appointed head coach on a one-and-a-half-year contract. Stojanovic, like Micho has been a free agent since parting ways with SC Villa at the start of the current season.

His tenure with the Ugandan club ended abruptly four months after guiding them to their record-extending 17th Uganda Premier League title. This appointment reunites Stojanovic and Micho, who have previously worked together as head coach and assistant at Egyptian club Zamalek and with the Zambian national team.

Micho’s technical team will also include Franck Plaine, a French fitness coach who worked with him during his second stint as Uganda Cranes coach. Additionally, Algerian Hajji Musa Belaili has been brought on as the club’s new performance analyst.

Al Merrikh and their rivals Al Hilal continue to play in the Mauritanian Premier League due to ongoing political unrest in Sudan. Al Merrikh currently sit in 10th place on the table while Florent Ibenge’s Al Hilal occupy 6th place with six games in hand.
