Algerian coach Adel Amrouche is now eligible to resume his managerial career immediately after winning a key ruling that reduced an initial suspension and secured compensation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
According to "winwin", the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) adjusted a previous decision by CAF’s Appeals Committee, reducing Amrouche’s suspension from eight matches to four. This ruling reduced the original disciplinary sanction imposed by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee in January 2024, which had banned Amrouche for eight games and fined him $10,000.
The suspension stemmed from remarks Amrouche made before Tanzania’s first group stage match against Morocco in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. At that time, he criticized the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and CAF, stating:
"The Moroccan FA is a powerful force in CAF. Their officials have strong control behind the scenes. For example, we were supposed to play a qualifier against Morocco during the day, but they forced us to play at night. They control everything—even choosing the referee for their match. We are facing a strong opponent, but other factors also influence the game against them."
These statements led to his suspension and fine but in March 2024, CAF’s Appeals Committee reduced the ban to four matches.
Now, CAS has officially upheld that decision while also ordering CAF to compensate Amrouche with 3,000 Swiss francs ($3,333), according to winwin.
The platform also reported that Adel Amrouche has already served the reduced four-match suspension between January and April 2024, as his contract as Tanzania's head coach was officially terminated on April 25th. Based on this information, Amrouche is now free to return to coaching without restrictions.
