The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Electoral Appeals Committee has declared four candidates eligible to contest for the association’s presidency during the forthcoming polls after earlier ruling them out.

The committee has ruled that Francis Hafwiti, Emmanuel Munaile, Keith Mweemba and Adrian Kashala can contest the elections alongside incumbent Andrew Kamanga.

FAZ general secretary Reuben Kamanga has confirmed the latest development ahead of the March 29 2025 polls.

“The FAZ Electoral Appeals Committee has concluded its sittings and formally notified all applicants of its decisions on the matters presented before it. Naturally, some appeals were successful while others were thrown out,” Kamanga said.

“FAZ embraces the principle of separation of powers which sees all the bodies make independent decisions. From now, those who still feel aggrieved can seek recourse with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).”

Earlier, FAZ electoral committee ruled out the association’s former general secretary Kashala from the presidential race alongside Keith Mweemba, Munaile, Godfrey Chikumbi, Mumbo Lombe, Alex Njobvu, Hamfwiti and Machacha Shepande.

The unsuccessful candidates appealed the decision successfully. Eligibility criteria were based on Article 33 of the FAZ Constitution which, among others, required candidates to pass an integrity test, and nominators for candidates to be registered in the FAZ Connect system for the 2024/2025 season.

Additionally, the nominators needed to hold the position of either President/Chairman or General Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in FAZ structures.

The nominators were checked if they nominated only one prospective candidate for a position. Candidates were required to have five years’ experience in the leadership position of a FAZ member.
