The Crested Cranes returned home after a challenging yet insightful tour in Algeria, where they lost two friendly matches, 2-1 and 1-0 to their hosts.
Despite the results, the tour has been hailed as a valuable learning experience for the team, with FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo committing to more robust support to elevate the team to the highest level.
Magogo emphasized the federation’s dedication to ensuring the Crested Cranes regularly engage in competitive international games, stating their target and aim to give the Crested Cranes the best opportunities to grow and compete at the top level.
These friendlies are part of that journey and the federation is fully behind the team as they continue to improve. Defender Phiona Nabulime echoed this optimism, reflecting on the lessons learned from the two matches in Algeria.
“We did a great job despite not winning any of the two games we played against Algeria, but if you see the two games, there was a huge improvement from the first to the second. We thank the technical team and the federation for the good job done and opportunity. We are looking forward to improving as we’ve got to see different styles of play and see how to adjust and face bigger teams,” Nabulime said upon the team’s return.
The Crested Cranes’ packed November schedule included four international friendlies, starting with two victories over DR Congo. These matches are part of FUFA’s strategy to provide the team with varied challenges to help them adapt to different styles of play.
As the Crested Cranes continue their journey of growth, the support pledged by the federation and the lessons from such engagements are expected to shape their competitive edge in future tournaments.
