The turmoil continues in the club career of Gabon national team striker Aaron Boupendza. The last two years have seen his club fortunes take a downward turn due to reported issues of indiscipline and Romanian club Rapid Bucharest are the latest to have had enough of Boupendza's episodes of unprofessional behavior.

According to Romanian media, Rapid are actively looking to sell the 28-year-old and will not settle for a free transfer according to Romanian outlet Digi Sport. Boupendza, displeased with the club's failure to pay a bonus in his contract, refused to return to Romania with the club from a training camp in Dubai despite assurances from the club of settling the dispute upon return.

Digi Sport spoke with one of the shareholders of Rapid, Victor Angelescu, who made it clear that Boupendza has been told his time at the club is nearing an end. "The player was very clearly conveyed the club's opinion...No (in response to if there is a way back into the team)." Before joining Rapid, Boupendza's contract was terminated early by Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati due to similar disciplinary issues during the 2024 season when he missed weeks of training and was also forced out of action after breaking his jaw in a fight.

China appears likely to be the next destination for Boupendza who has previously enjoyed success in Turkish football and in the Saudi Pro League. Digi Sport reports that Shanghai Taishan and Shanghai Port are the interested clubs with Rapid looking for a transfer fee of €1 million. Boupendza scored 5 goals in 11 matches for Rapid after joining in controversial fashion following a transfer saga between Rapid and Egyptian giants Zamalek.
