Gaborone United’s new coach Dimitar Pantev has made bold assertions that only his current employers and Orapa United ‘try to play modern football’ in Botswana.

The Bulgarian said this on Friday ahead of his debut as coach of Gaborone United who take on VFM FC at Gaborone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking in front of his players and club director Nicolas Zakhem, Pantev said he had joined the team to win silverware.

“I am not here to waste your time,” the controversial trainer explained during his introduction.

“I am here to win trophies. As I discussed with my former players at Orapa, there are only two teams that try to play modern football—you and Orapa. You try, you can, this is different.”

The Bulgarian parted ways with the CAF Confederation Cup participants, Orapa United last month. Pantev has now replaced Pontsho Moloi who threw in the towel at United a fortnight ago.

Zakhem said they hired Pantev because his football philosophy is similar to that of United who sit in fourth place on the log table, five points behind leaders Tafic FC.
