Kenya struck late to salvage a point against Gambia in a thrilling 3-3 draw in Ivory Coast on Thursday in the fifth match day from 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying. Gambia coach Johnathan McKinstry was not shy in revealing his anger over the display of the Scorpions as their World Cup qualifying campaign’s poor run continues.

McKinstry questioned the way his charges defended their 2-0 lead. “Frustrated is not the word I think...furious, angry is the word. We can’t play like that. The boys know it and I am not going to say anything. "

"I think the Kenyan coach (Benni McCarthy) called it correctly. Kenya created two good chances in the game and they didn’t score either of them. Their three goals come from us giving it to them. The penalty was soft but we were messing around with the ball at 2-0 up. We were playing short passes on the edge of our penalty area under huge pressure from a team that had nothing to lose.”

Gambia conceded three second half goals to settle for a point. Their next assignment will be against African champions Ivory Coast. The Northern Irish coach is aware of the difficulty of the task after his side failed to get maximum points against the Harambee Stars.

Gambia are fourth with four points in Group F, eight points behind first placed Gabon.
