Experienced Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu has left his role as the head coach of South Africa second tier club, Black Leopards, seven months after taking charge of the club.

Konadu’s exit follows a disappointing 2-1 loss to Lerumo United on Saturday which left the entire club’s hierarchy and fans distraught. The defeat left Leopards in 10th place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, with 23 points from 17 matches.

Konadu, who took charge of the Venda-based side in July 2024, arrived with high expectations due to his extensive experience in the Ghana domestic league and the national teams.

The 52-year-old’s domestic coaching career includes stints with the defunct Wa All Stars, his former club Asante Kotoko over two spells, Legon Cities and Nsoatreman which qualified for last season’s CAF Confederation Cup after winning the FA Cup.

The former Ghana international has served as an assistant coach for the senior national team, the Black Stars under several managers, including Otto Addo, Milovan Rajevac, Chris Hughton, Kwesi Appiah, and Avram Grant.

Despite his rich club and national team experience, he struggled to deliver the expected results at Leopards, leading to his dismissal.

Konadu was appointed coach of Leopards in July 2024 after leaving Ghana Premier League side Nsoatreman FC, having led them to the FA Cup triumph.
