Ghana national team central defender Joseph Aidoo has left Celta Vigo for the time being but will remain in Spain's La Liga after his loan to Real Valladolid was announced on Thursday.

The 29-year-old is hoping to find regular playing time at Valladolid after falling completely out of the reckoning for Celta due to a long-term Achilles tendon injury, from which he returned to training last July. Aidoo has only made nine appearances over the last season-and-a-half for Celta after previously being a regular sight in the XI over four seasons from 2019 to 2023.

This season, the former International Allies player has made two starts for Celta against lower league opposition in the Copa del Rey along with one brief substitute appearance in La Liga. The Tema native joins a Valladolid team that has by far the worst defense in La Liga, sitting in last place six points from safety with an awful record of 42 goals conceded in 21 games while only scoring 14 goals.

Aidoo arrived at Celta Vigo from Belgian club Genk for an €8 million fee ahead of the 2019-20 season and has made 131 La Liga appearances for the club, scoring 3 goals. He has made 17 appearances for the Ghana national team.
