Ghana football especially the premier league has come under sharp criticisms from the Ghanaian media and the citizens at large.

The discussions come following the nation’s clubs poor performance in continental football, the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup. The domestic top flight is also fraught with poor refereeing decisions which has gone a long way to defile the beauty of the game.

Ghana forward, Bernard Tekpetey has therefore urged football authorities to take steps to make the Ghana Premier League (GPL) more appealing to fans. “If our leaders make the Ghana Premier League attractive, people will watch it just like they do for the Premier League,” Tekpetey told Asempa FM.

“The way Ghanaians love football, if the Ghana Premier League is attractive and Hearts and Kotoko are playing, the stadium will be full.” The Ludogorets forward’s remarks come at a time when the GPL has been plagued by controversies, including concerns over poor refereeing decisions that have undermined the credibility of matches.

Additionally, allegations of betting-related scandals have tarnished the league’s reputation, with some fans losing confidence in its integrity. The Ghana Premier League’s first round will wind down next with the last batch of matches to be cleared.
