Bayer Leverkusen's Dutch winger of Ghanaian descent, Jeremie Frimpong, has urged Ghana football authorities to bring stability to help the growth of the game in the West African nation.
The Ghana Premier League and the leagues below are usually fraught with poor officiating, pockets of hooliganism with club administrators doing little to nothing to avert the situation. The nation's football clubs have equally struggled in recent years to make a meaningful impact in continental football with Premier League side Dreams FC being the latest to reach as far as the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, the best finish for a Ghanaian club in many years.
Despite not being a stakeholder in Ghanaian domestic football having never played or watched any Ghanaian league game, Frimpong follows the game religiously on social media and has called on the authorities to make the system “stable” for the improvement of the game.
“I feel like in Europe, the setup is really good. I’m not saying that the setup is bad here [in Ghana] but the setup in Europe is really stable,” Jeremie Frimpong told Pan-Africa Football.
“I’ve never watched the Ghanaian league so I cannot talk about it. I can only talk about what I have seen and I think the league is stable in Europe."
“There is barely any problems. There is no cancellation of any matches, it’s very stable. I think if they bring stability here, things can be good,” Frimpong told Pan-Africa Football.
Frimpong, 24, who has played 16 games with two goals and five assists this season for Leverkusen, was in Ghana to give back to the Dansoman community with his Pathway Project. The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season has lasted for 16 weeks with the last batch of games set to conclude the first half of the campaign next weekend.
