Ghana Premier League: Coach Zito’s first Kotoko assignment ends with slim Aduana win

Striker Kwame Opoku gave interim Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito a first half smile when his ferocious strike in the 25th minute sent the Porcupine Warriors ahead of Aduana Aduana Stars in Week 29 of the Ghana Premier League.
The record Ghana Premier League holders looked well composed on the ball under the experienced trainer at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
The two-time African champions were coming from two consecutive losses against Accra Lions and Nations FC and needed a win to keep their title hopes alive.
Kotoko were however shaken when Aduana Stars were awarded a penalty on the 36th minute but goalkeeper Mohamed Camara went the right way to save Sam Adams' spot kick. Kotoko held on to the important yet slim lead into break.
Kotoko came close to increasing the tally in the second half but Kwame Opoku’s curler went off the post for Aduana Stars goal kick. The visitors however looked good from then on, chasing the equalizer with attacks from the flanks but struggled to convert their minimal chances into goals.
Kotoko managed to soak the incessant pressure from the visitors to run away with the 1-0 victory but that did not change their position on the table.
The remain in 4th on 50 points same as Heart of Lions who won 1-0 at Legon Cities on Sunday. Leaders, Gold Stars’s quest to increase their points was jolted by a 2-0 loss at Vision FC with Nations FC bowing to Berekum Chelsea by 1-0 at the Golden City Park.
