Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has admitted that Asante Kotoko gave them a tough time at their own backyard.
Lions went down from a well taken strike by Justice Blay in added time of the first half at the Kpando Sports Stadium in week 25 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday. They however recovered in the second half to level when Ishmael Addo’s free kick was headed in by central defender, Fawzi Ali.
The second half produced end-to-end action with both sides pushing for a winner, but neither could find the clinical touch in front of goal keeping the score line at 1-1 until full time. Bashir Hayford said after the game:
“Kotoko fought very hard. We made all efforts to beat them but it didn’t happen. We had to fight from behind to draw with Kotoko. It was a tough match. The boys fought hard but the goals didn’t come and we split points.”
“The problem is finishing. In Ghana, we have strikers but we don’t have finishers. They always run and mess up in the final third. I always work on my strikers just to improve on scoring,” he said.
For Heart of Lions, the draw keeps them in third place on 41 points, preserving their strong standing in the league. The Kpando-based club will next face Berekum Chelsea, another side in the hunt for a top-four finish.
