Ghana Premier League: Hunters shoot down Porcupines, Hearts of Oak earn slim victory as week 10 closes

Week 10 of the Ghana Premier League opened on Friday, November 8 with a hard fought win for Hearts of Oak at home to new boys, Vision FC.


Substitute, Mawuli Wayo found the back of the net for the Phobians in 50 minutes after a grueling first half produced no goals at the Legon Stadium. The slim win put the millennium champions in 4th on 15 points - two behind Heart of Lions who sit third. The Phobians trail second placed Nations fc by four points and five adrift of leaders, Gold Stars after week 10.


At the Tuba Astroturf in Kasoa, strugglers Dreams FC got their first win of the season when experienced forward Joseph Esso notched home a 72nd minute penalty against Medeama SC in the only match played on Saturday.


In the Sunday fixtures, Bechem United stunned Asante Kotoko at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park. The Hunters hypnotized the Porcupine Warriors courtesy of Kofi Tompuo’s perfect volley on the 27th minute - dropping the record league holders into 5th with 15 points. The loss is Asante Kotoko’s three straight defeats in their last four games - collecting a paltry one point out of a possible 12.


In other results, Aduana Stars recorded their first victory in four games, beating Karela United 1-0 at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park. An in form Heart of Lions nailed former champions Berekum Chelsea by a 1-0 score at the Hohoe Stadium to move into third on the league table on 17 points.


Elsewhere at the Doctor Kyei Complex, Nations FC recorded the biggest win of the evening, thumping FA Cup holders, Nsoatreman by 3-0 to stay in second with 19 points. Reigning league champions Samartex were 1-0 winners at home to a struggling Legon Cities while new boys Holy Stars beating Accra Lions 2-1. Current league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars clawed one point at Young Apostles following a goalless draw to maintain their status at the top of the table on 20 points.
