Asante Kotoko returned to the top of the Ghana Premier League table after squeezing three points from Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday.

The Porcupine Warriors had to dig deeper to secure a slim, yet an important 1-0 victory over the former champions at the Baba Yara Stadium in an outstanding week 21 fixture.

The record Premier League title holders capitalized on a moment of brilliance from defender Daniel Adjetey, whose powerful strike from inside the box in the 79th minute broke the deadlock against the run of play.

Despite a late push from Chelsea, Kotoko managed to hold on to secure the three points, moving back into top spot with 45 points, one better than Gold Stars who sit second after 24 matches.

Head coach of the record Ghana Premier League holders, Prosper Narteh Ogum spoke after the game. “A very physical game, very energy sapping. Berekum Chelsea were going for direct balls, the long balls, very good in the air, they had aerial supremacy. They can win the balls so it was making the game a lot physical. But we tried to keep the ball and then we got the goal. It was a game of two good sides that played. We are happy, everybody is happy and I think it is a good thing for us.” Prosper Narteh Ogum said in post -match.

Kotoko extended their unbeaten run to six league games, having secured back-to-back victories.
