Ghana giants Asante Kotoko have officially dispensed with the service of head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum following two consecutive losses in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.

Ogum, who led the Porcupine Warriors to league glory in the 2021/22 campaign, was reappointed in July 2023 with the aim of reshaping the record title holders into a formidable side.

His second coming has however fallen short of the club’s expectations with roller coaster performances this term where their title hopes continue to look bleak.

A disastrous output culminated in a 3-0 loss to Accra Lions in an outstanding week 22 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium before bowing to regional rivals Nations FC by 2-0 at the Dr. Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday.

The two defeats left the two-time African champions trailing leaders Gold Stars with six games to finish the season. A statement released by the club on Saturday afternoon confirmed the decision:

“Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has this afternoon parted company with Head Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum.

“This decision was reached following constructive discussions between both parties, with a shared understanding that it is in the best interest of the club at this time.

“We thank Coach Ogum for his dedication and service to the club, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.

“We urge our supporters to remain calm and continue to support the club during this transition. Further updates will be communicated in due course.”

Kotoko sit 4th on the league table on 47 points from 28 games with the race for title heating up by the week. Kotoko have recorded 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 defeats heading into a crucial FA Cup semi finals against Berekum Chelsea.
