
Asante Kotoko returned to the summit of the Ghana Premier League table with a slim 1-0 victory over Basake Holy Stars.
The Porcupine Warriors, who are the record Ghana Premier League holders, shut out the Premier League new boys at the Baba Yara Stadium in Week 25 action on Sunday afternoon. Despite a purposeless first half, the two time champions managed to reign supreme over the visitors with some few clear scoring chances.
A free kick was cleared out from Holy Stars penalty area with the ball falling to Samuel Tenadu in about twenty yards.
The defender powered from outside the box which ricocheted off the foot of Holy Stars defender into the back of the net for the opener on the 13th minute.
Saaka Dauda and Baba Yaya had a perfect combination in Holy Stars penalty yard with Yaya tapping in from close but the goal was adjudged offside on the 28th minute.
Both sides failed to create enough scoring chances with Kotoko holding on to the slim lead into the entire proceedings.
The win takes Kotoko into top spot on 42 points from 23 league matches played.
In another top fixture, Hearts of Oak picked an important point against Gold Stars after selling out a 1-1 draw at the Duns Park on Sunday after. The result keeps the Phobians in 4th on the league table with 37 points same as Heart of Lions whose fixture against Nsoatreman will not be played because the latter’s withdrawal from the league.
Karela United fought from a goal down to beat Bechem United by 2-1 to move steps away from the relegation zone into 15th on the table with 22 points from 23 matches.
