Head coach of Hearts of Oak, Aboubakar Ouatarra has remained calm despite their win against Legon Cities on Friday at the Legon Sports Stadium.
The Phobians squeezed a slim 1-0 victory against the Royals in week 16 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League. It was Legon Cities who had a lion share of ball possession in both halves, creating more goal scoring opportunities but struggled to break down Hearts goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare.
However the record Ghana FA Cup holders managed to produce some magic with a minute to head into the break when youngster, Ramzy Yussif went past an array of Legon Cities defenders to slot home the only goal and the eventual winner.
Notwithstanding the very important yet slim victory, Ouatarra has called for calm with a game to finish the fist round. “Like I said, the important thing is the three points and like I told you before the game, we can’t underrate this team because the situation of this team is very bad but they have a good team and they are fighting and when somebody is fighting, it is not easy,” said Ouatarra.
“And we are also fighting because of the pressure of this match and every match Hearts of Oak are playing now is a pressure match,” he added.
Hearts of Oak’s first half can be described as nearly horrible, losing important balls in the middle of the park but the Ivorian trainer says such occurrences are associated with football.
“It is normal [to play badly] when you are losing the 50-50 balls and what I will say is, when the opponent team is fighting for a position, we also need to fight to get the points. “But we didn’t fight in the first half and Legon Cities created the chances but unfortunately they didn’t get the chance to score and that is football,” Ouatarra concluded.
The 2000 CAF Champions League winners have temporarily jumped into the second on the league table with 28 points from 16 league matches. Their next game is away to Samartex in week 17 on December 19.
