Former Ghana national team defender, Jonathan Mensah will leave New England Revolution at the end of their 2024 season in the Major League Soccer. Mensah is joined by compatriot winger Yaw Yeboah after the Columbus Crew decided to part ways with him as MLS clubs made their roster decisions this week.

The Revolution decided against extending the contract of the experienced centre-back for one more year. Mensah, who once captained Columbus Crew, joined New England Revolution from San Jose Earthquakes in 2024 but has struggled to command a regular shirt. Brought in as an experienced depth player, the 34-year-old made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Revs who are looking to rebuild after a poor 2024 campaign.

The 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup winner’s struggle with form and this term saw him chalk a paltry eight matches as New England failed to reach the playoffs. The rugged defender is capped 70-times by Ghana and could see stay a bit longer in the MLS as he attracted some suitors. Mensah has previously featured for French club, Evian and Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala.

In a related development, another Ghana international, Yaw Yeboah is set to leave MLS side, Columbus Crew at the end of this season. The 27-year-old midfielder will exit the Ohio-based club who failed to extend Yeboah's extra-year contract.

After joining from Polish side Wisla Krakow in 2022, Yeboah showed some promising signs with Columbus but his role declined after current coach Wilfried Nancy joined the Crew a year later. Nancy switched to a 5-3-2 system with the Crew and Yeboah struggled to adapt to the defensive requirements of a wingback role. He leaves Columbus after accumulating 93 appearances with 6 goals and 12 assists over three seasons in all competitions including the winning goal in the final against Los Angeles FC as Columbus won the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs.

The club wrote on X: "Forever a Champion. Thank you, Yaw, for your time in Black & Gold. We wish you the best in your next chapter," posted Crew on X.
