The title race in Angola's top flight Girabola remains suspenseful and it was defending champions Petro de Luanda who took a big step towards retaining their title on Saturday. Os Tricolores came back from a one-goal deficit to score twice in the final fifteen minutes in their 2-1 victory over Interclube, extending their league lead to three points over closest rivals Wiliete.

Portuguese midfielder Pedro Aparicio showed his class to equalize with a calm finish from a free kick service by Honduran playmaker Jonathan Toro in the 79th minute. A handball offense from Interclube seven minutes later set the stage for Julinho's powerful blast from an indirect free kick and Petro secured three points.

After title rivals Wiliete needed a second half comeback to secure one point in a 2-2 draw at CRD Libolo earlier in the day, Saturday's result pushes Petro further towards defending their title. Petro now lead by three points with five matches left to play. The 2021-22 CAF Champions League semifinalists also hold the head-to-head edge over Wiliete but plenty of challenging fixtures lay ahead against the likes of CD Lunda Sul, Academica, Primeiro de Agosto and Sagrada Esperança.

It appears that there is still plenty of suspense remaining in the ongoing Girabola campaign. Let's see if Petro can overcome a tricky schedule to outlast challengers Wiliete and their Girabola leading scorer Kaporal.
