Angolan powerhouse Petro de Luanda may not be a participant in CAF club competition this season but Os Tricolores continue to set the pace in Angola's top division Girabola. Petro defeated top division newcomers Carmona SC with a 2-0 score away from home to move four points clear at the top of the table.

Honduras national team striker Bryan Róchez scored both goals in the second half to secure three points for Petro who have won the last three editions of the Girabola. The 29-year-old signed from Portuguese second tier club Portimonense now has four goals in fourteen matches since deciding to join compatriot Jonathan Toro at the club.

Petro, semifinalists at the 2021-22 CAF Champions League and quarterfinalists in the competition last season, missed out on the group stage this season after falling to Congolese club AS Maniema Union by a 2-1 aggregate score in the qualifying stages. However it appears that the lack of continental football is only sharpening the club's focus on claiming a fourth consecutive domestic league title.
