Benguela, Angola was the site of a festive atmosphere on Sunday as hosts Wiliete SC took down the winners of the last three Girabola title, Petro de Luanda, to inject suspense into Angola's top division. Petro were undefeated through twenty matches before Sunday's defeat.

Losers of their last three league clashes against Petro, Wiliete had extra motivation to respond with a positive performance in front of their faithful supporters. Indeed, before three minutes had elapsed the hosts had taken the lead courtesy of a stellar free kick strike from former Angola national team and Petro forward Karanga.

Wiliete, only in their sixth year of existence as a club, held the high powered Petro attack scoreless for a clean sheet to move within two points of Angola's dominant club. Having won the last three domestic top flight titles, Petro are now only two points clear of the challengers from Benguela who have been fueled by the scoring exploits of league top scorer Kaporal (18 goals)

With nine matches left to play, this title race is surely one to watch. After Tuesday's clash between Interclube and Desportivo Huila, the league will take time off for the international break before resuming at the end of the month.
