Fired Gor Mahia coach Martins Neiva - Gor Mahia Media.
Gor Mahia have moved to fire head coach Leonardo Martins Neiva following a spate of unconvincing results in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League this season.
K’Ogalo confirmed in a statement that they had parted ways with the Brazilian coach by saying: "We hereby announce end of engagement with coach Leo Neiva; we truly thank him for his services and appreciate the times he spent at the club. Coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno and Michael Nam will take charge on interim basis.
"The club extends its gratitude to Neiva for his commitment, hard work, and contributions to Gor Mahia during his time with the team. The club will begin the hunt for a new manager who embodies the values and aspirations and who will bring renewed energy and strategic insight to the team."
Martins Neiva arrived at K’Ogalo replacing Johnathan McKinstry at the start of the season but he found himself in the bad books with the club’s faithful following a poor run of results in the top-flight.
Gor Mahia had kicked off the season with a 4-0 win against Mathare United, hammered Posta Rangers 3-0, drew 0-0 against KCB before losing their first game of the season 2-1 against Nairobi City Stars.
The defeat against Simba Wa Nairobi was followed up with a 2-2 draw against Murang’a Seal before they lost 2-0 against Bandari FC in the last game before the current FIFA international break.
Against City Stars, Martins Neiva and his players were held hostage at Machakos Stadium before being whisked away to safety by security. The fans were demanding answers following a string of poor results.
According to Gor Mahia, assistant coach Zedekiah Otieno and Michael Nam will take charge on an interim basis meaning they will lead the side when they face rivals AFC Leopards in a Mashemeji derby on November 24, Sunday.
