Guinean goal-machine Serhou Guirassy has been nominated for the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week Award. This follows his stupendous displays for Borussia Dortmund in their 3-1 triumph over Barcelona on Tuesday.
Boasting 14 goals in 13 matches for the 2025 UEFA Champions League, Serhou Guirassy faces competition from Arsenal’s midfield conductor Declan Rice, Paris-Saint Germain’s Ousmane Dembele and Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan for the weekly award.
The four players have been recognized for their performances in the quarter-final second legs. Fans vote for the winner of the accolade.
The Guinean scored a hat-trick for the Bundesliga side which was still unable to proceed to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals due to the 4-0 first leg loss suffered at the hands of the Spanish La Liga heavyweights the previous week.
In a post-match interview with Borussia Dortmund media, Guirassy rued the heavy first leg loss which helped Barcelona through 5-3 on aggregate.
"It's a shame that we were too far behind in the match of the year. That will serve us as a lesson for future matches. But we fought until the end. Barcelona have a brilliant team, we're also a brilliant team. It's lovely to be the top goalscorer in the Champions League. There are very good players. Being first means that I'm a good striker. But I can't do it alone, without the team," he said.
Rice won the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week award last week when he scored twice in the 3-0 win over Carlo Ancelloti’s side.
