Down 1-0 at home in the 80th minute against last placed Southampton on Thursday, it appeared that Manchester United were set for another disappointing result and humiliation in front of their home supporters.
Enter Amad Diallo. The Ivorian forward and one of the lone bright spots for United these days saved his team with a magical ten minute stretch that saw Diallo score three goals to spur The Red Devils to a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford. Diallo scored in the 82nd and 90th minutes as well as an insurance goal in stoppage time to confirm three points for the hosts.
A Manuel Ugarte own goal late in the first half put visitors Southampton ahead and supporters were dreaming of a first Premier League victory since the beginning of November. However a stroke of luck saw Diallo equalize when an initial shot came off Kyle Walker-Peters and came right back to Diallo who finished past Saints goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
But the truly magical moment came in the 90th minute when Diallo played a pass to substitute Christian Eriksen. The Danish playmaker chipped a special return pass to find the run of the Ivorian who stretched to volley past Ramsdale.
Diallo added insult to injury for Southampton supporters with yet another goal a few minutes later to put the result beyond doubt. He now has 6 goals and 6 assists in 19 Premier League appearances this season for United who move up to 12th on the table following Thursday's result. United will be at Old Trafford again on Sunday when they host Brighton.
