Heart of Lions exerted the needed energy yet it was not enough to secure any point against Hearts of Oak at the Legon Stadium on Friday evening in match week 19 of the Ghana Premier League.

Both clubs created few scoring opportunities in the first half with the best chance falling to Hearts of Oak striker, Hamza Issah who blew wide over the bar much to the relief of Heart of Lions fans.

Mawuli Wayo could have shot the Phobians ahead on the stroke of half time but his ferocious strike ricocheted off the goal post and back into the arms of Heart of Lions goalkeeper.

The Phobians raised the bar with wing play which resulted into a penalty kick. Stephen Appiah Asare was hacked down for a penalty kick which Mawuli Wayo expertly converted for the only goal and the eventual winner for Hearts of Oak

Speaking in a post-match interview, assistant coach of Heart of Lions, Daniel Nii Adjei commended his players for a good performance in the loss.

“It was a good game. The boys did their best but we conceded the lone goal and lost. We will go back and in our next game we will make sure to win,” Nii Adjei said.

Friday night’s defeat means Heart of Lions could drop out of the top four at the end of the match day 19 fixtures. They currently have 30 points with Hearts of Oak overtaking them with 33 points.
