Sporting Director of Accra Lions Ibrahim Tanko has admitted that Hearts of Oak deserved the earn all three points against them on Sunday.

Accra Lions suffered a painful 3-2 loss at the WAFA Park to the Phobians in a week 15 encounter to further deepen their relegation battle in the 2024/25 season.

Despite the young Lions squad tormenting Hearts of Oak in the second half, they succumbed to two late substitute, Mawuli Wayo’s goals. Ibrahim Tanko said after the loss: “I think we started very well until the time they scored and it was a very tough game for us to day but I think in the end they deserved to win more than us,” Tanko said.

“I’m disappointed in the score line but in terms of the performance I think they did very well and so we have to go and do our homework for the next game against Dreams fc.”

He added. “We have learnt that we have to score. If you score one and the chance comes you have to score and in the premier league you have to score more goals to win.

“Scoring just one goal, always you have to be under pressure so definitely we are going to work on it,” he concluded.

The defeat sinks Accra Lions further into the relegation zone where they sit in 16th with 13 points from 15 league matches.
