Former Hearts of Oak captain, Gladson Awako has revealed the problem that led to his unfortunate departure from the club after two seasons.

The former TP Mazembe and Don Bosco midfielder joined Hearts of Oak in 2021 and left the club in September 2023 lifting the top flight title and two FA Cup trophies in the process.

A bad blood reportedly ensued during the latter part of his stay at the club but the diminutive midfielder has explained the cause of his exit from the record Ghana FA Cup holders.

“Hearts of Oak and Olympics are two different clubs. One of the club is political and the other is not. It got to a time they thought I was becoming too powerful so they had to get rid of me but there was no problem with me,” he told Asempa FC.

He admitted that he became powerful at the club due to the leadership role granted him by former coach Nemanja Matic. “The leadership roles I got from the coach gave me power and they felt if they should allow me, it won't help most of them so they got rid of me,” he added.

The midfielder now plies his trade for Great Olympics in the Division One League.
