Former Malawi league champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have appointed Peter Mponda as the new head coach to replace Zimbabwean Kalisto Pasuwa.
Bullets unveiled Mponda to the press on Monday in Malawi’s commercial capital Blantyre on Monday, 6 January 2025, a week after he resigned from newly crowned league champions Silver Strikers.
In a statement, Bullets said: “Mponda is one of the most exciting and highly rated Malawian young coaches. He joins The People’s Team after guiding Silver Strikers to their first Super League title after 11 years.”
The former Malawian international is in familiar surroundings at Bullets where he served as a captain for over a decade before graduating into an assistant coach for Pasuwa.
The departure of the Zimbabwean at the end of his contract on December 31, 2024 after failing to defend the TNM Super League title for a sixth consecutive time paved the way for the return of Mponda who is expected to name his backroom staff later this week.
The former international defender had a successful playing career with ESCOM United, Bullets, Monomotapa FC in Zimbabwe, Ottawa Wizards (Canada), Black Leopards FC and Engen Santos FC (both in South Africa).
