Ghana international Joseph Paintsil has set his sights on playing for his nation at the 2026 World Cup hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico should the Black Stars qualify.
The LA Galaxy winger did not make the cut for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar despite playing an important role during the qualification period.
Speaking to Joy Sports, the 26-year-old opened up on his omission from the Ghana squad for the 2022 World Cup but expressed hopes to be included at the next edition in 2026 should Ghana make it.
”It was strange and I was unhappy, but I always have to accept the decision of the head coach. There are millions of players who dream of playing for Ghana at the World Cup but only 23 will make the cut."
“I was disappointed but my job is to keep focused and work hard. There are more World Cups ahead and my hope is to be part of the squad for the next one if we are able to qualify,” he said.
His omission from Ghana’s final squad list came as a huge surprise to many after displaying excellent form in the United States with current club Los Angeles Galaxy in comparison to some of his international teammates.
In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Ghana are level on 9 points with Comoros at the top of their group and will resume qualifying in March against Chad and Madagascar when the group stage surpasses its halfway point.
